Microsoft sales and profit beat estimates on cloud growth
Microsoft Corp beat Wall Street estimates for revenue and profit in its first quarter on Wednesday, as more businesses signed up for its Azure cloud computing services and Office 365 software. Microsoft shares have tripled since Satya Nadella became chief executive in 2014 and refocused the company on building data center software and services. The stock, which has risen more than 21 percent over the past 12 months, gained 1.9 percent in after-hours trading following the earnings report. (Fonte: Reuters)
LG Electronics’ third-quarter profit rises 45 percent as mobile losses narrow
South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc said on Thursday third-quarter operating profit jumped 45 percent to 749 billion won ($657.83 million) as its mobile phone division narrowed losses. L’ombra nera è quella dell’obsolescenza programmata. Anche se a leggere le parole dell’Antitrust italiano, che oggi ha multato Apple e Samsung (per 10 e 5 milioni di euro), la terminologia non appare mai: «L’Agcom – è scritto nella nota – ha accertato che le società del gruppo Apple e del gruppo Samsung hanno realizzato pratiche commerciali scorrette in violazione degli artt. 20, 21, 22 e 24 del Codice del Consumo in relazione al rilascio di alcuni aggiornamenti del firmware dei cellulari che hanno provocato gravi disfunzioni e ridotto in modo significativo le prestazioni, in tal modo accelerando il processo di sostituzione degli stessi».
